We managed to get over the flu after Christmas, and then January has been one busy event after the other. I figured I should stop in and update you, lest you think I fell off the side of a cliff:

January Crazy List

  • Morgan’s cat, Loki, had a major accident with his tail (and it was so fluffy we didn’t know it). He began chasing it, and at first, we thought – “Crazy cat! How cute!”… and that soon turned in to hissing, growling, and biting himself, and we thought – “Holy cow, maybe he has rabies, stay back and lets trap him to take him to a vet.” A few hundred dollars later, and he’s wearing the cone of shame and making my daughter’s room smell like a cat hotel. We are a family of OUTSIDE cats, so this is a real bummer… but I feel sorry for him and the other cats would laugh him to the curb running around in a vet cone. His stitches come out in a day or two… then he moves back into the wild, minus 1 tail.
  • Our home buyers found out they can’t get a loan for another six months, effectively sending us back to square one. I put a little listing up on Facebook and have been amazed by how many people have been interested. A realtor told me today that she had put in offers in my neighborhood on two houses and had been turned down even though they were offering well over asking price… because there’s so much happening on the market right now in my area. I sure wish we could keep this house as an investment and a place for my big kids to stay in Austin. They will most likely move out and get an apartment so they can stay in town when we move out to renovate mom’s tiny country cottage.

Note: if you know anyone moving to Austin… who is looking for a fantastic house that is 5 minutes from a park and ride Train, 15 minutes to two suburban shopping hubs and tons of great restaurants, and 30 minutes from down-town Austin, let me know!

  • Kaden finally started his third semester of college after his first day of class was canceled due to ice (us Texans…sheesh… You would have thought it was a blizzard). Here’s praying he can keep that GPA up even though he’ll be taking a Math and English class this semester. He hates math (he gets this from his mama… legit).
  • My girl turned 19, so we celebrated with dinner at a Ramen place in Austin and lunch the next day at Tacodeli… and a trip to Toy Joy just for fun.
  • A sweet Facebook friend in Houston donated two mattresses and a lower bunk bed to us for the boys and Pop and Nana brought it to us. Now I just need one more mattress and bed for the youngest and all three of them will have a place to sleep when we move. Our bedroom situation will be much different in a two-bedroom cottage than it is in a 2400+ square foot house in the “city”. Until we can remodel, we will be tripping over each other and sleeping in close quarters! I’m cool with it – as long as there are NO SCORPIONS IN THE BEDS.

  • Morgan is almost hired back on at Starbucks (sadly, this means little to me anymore since I don’t drink coffee… but maybe I can get a free tea now and then).
  • I had labs run for my three month bloodwork check and then found out that my insurance had changed without me knowing… so I spent a few days getting all that sorted out and had to reschedule my sonogram and oncology appointments for later in February. Hopefully, I’ll have good news to share about my current state of health soon. I did find out that my vitamin D is low, so I’ve started a new supplement and have done quite a bit of research online. Did you know you have vitamin D receptors on the part of your brain stem that helps you get REM sleep??? Yep – vitamin D deficiency can affect so much! If you follow me on Facebook, you probably already know this, because I share a lot of my health research there.

Note: if you want to get health updates… you can request to friend me on my personal facebook profile (not my website page). I only share homeschooling, blogging, and photography things on my page.

  • We went to see Star Wars The Last Jedi and Coco (loved both)… then we watched Paddington on Amazon so we could prepare for watching the new Paddington 2 at a later date. The boys are itching to go see the new Peter Rabbit movie, also. I had an invitation to go to the screening of Paddington 2, but we were sick. Last night in the car, my 8 year old put some food in his hat like Paddington did with his marmalade sandwich “for emergencies only”. Ha!
  • I’ve gone through every emotion possible about all the changes we’ve had over the past two years and the prospect of the shift of our family dynamic as this season comes to a close. My mama has been on my heart as well… missing her still, wishing I could ask her questions or that she could see the boys growing up and the big kids making changes… of us working at her house and making strides towards moving there. In just a few short months, we will be a family of 4 again – and the oldest 2 will be off doing their own thing for a majority of the time. I have peace about all of it, finally, although I am definitely trying to treasure the moments I have left in this stage of life. Good thing is: the boys are now saying that IF WE FIX UP “Chickie’s” house, they are ok with living there. Hahahaha! Good thing Chickie isn’t here to hear that kind of talk.
  • I’ve spent the better part of this past week planning a road trip for me and the kids to go WEST. I’m taking photos at ShiftCon again this year in California. Last year it was in New Orleans, LA. Because I had a bad wreck and lost my newer vehicle, I’ll be renting this time, so it will be fun to get to be in a new car for the trip, and we plan to stop and take lots of photos along the way. The whole reason I got into event photography was because I love taking photos and I always wanted to take my kids on trips and could never afford it any other way. Being a homeschool mama is a wonderful job… but it doesn’t pay well!

I look forward to giving you some amazing updates in February… hopefully one of them will include photos from our trip, a review of ShiftCon (which is an amazing conference about all the health-nut, pro-clean eating and non-GMO stuff I’m in to already), an “ALL CLEAR” from my oncologist, news of a contract and closing date on our house here in Austin, and updates on my two birthday boys in February – turning 21 and 7, respectively (oldest / youngest).

Here’s to February! God bless – and keep us in your prayers… for safe travels, good test results and health, and smooth transitions with NO DRAMA!
